How To Get Ahead In The World Of Indie Comics, Part One: Minicomics

For the prospective cartoonist, we’ll look at how to create, distribute, and market minicomics. Moderator Andy Mansell will host Indie Island artists Jeffrey Brown, J Chris Campbell, Jim Mahfood, Andy Runton, Ben Towle, and Rob Ullman.

I can’t stop my trap from the flippity flap. Matt Rawson over at Comic Critique was able to write it up in a neat little article. Complete with an Attic Bugs strip!!

Here’s a little something that got left on the cutting room floor and for a good reason.

MR: Any amusing convention stories, or stories related to “Zig Zag,” its creation, promotion, or other projects, etc.?
JCC: Usually I try and make a road trip out of the drive to SPX. So there are tons of things I could talk about from those. But one that always comes up is called the “Stink Shoe” or “Stink Foot.” We were at some hotel and my friend woke to find someone else’s underwear shoved down in his shoe. Apparently the underwearer thought they were his shoes, which doesn’t explain why he was putting it in there in the first place. So now when we’re on an over night road trip, someone gets the “Stink Foot” and usually it’s the new guy. It’s really immature funny, but funny nonetheless.

Chris Reilly and Ben Towle asked me to be a part of the next Strange Egg anthology from Slave Labor Publishing. Some how they had 2 extra pages that needed filled. So I filled them with these guys, Cleveland Cat and Fishstix, to run around with the antholgy’s main character, The Boxing Bucket. Yes, a bucket with boxing gloves and yes that is a floating skeleton of a fish and yes agian, he is wearing a top hat. Oh, the fun I had. Can’t wait for the book!
