Small Press Expo

Posted by J Chris in Comics, Events

Dudes. It’s so less than 3 weeks until the best Indie show.

SMALL PRESS EXPO - SPX
October 15
Bethesda, MD

Poster by Tony Millionaire
(who will be at the fantagraphics booth)
Just look at the awesome guest list.

SPX 2006

It’ll be cool to check out the new location which looks ultra swanky. One other good thing is everyone will be in one big room. Bad thing is it’s further away from all the happenings of downtown Bethesda. Not a lot of close restaurants and bars. Looks as though the Mediterranean House of Kabob is pretty close. Anyway, it’s basically like a new show so we’ll see what happens.
Wide Awake 666

We will for sure have a table full of the very latest from Wide Awake Press. The year’s best SCARY+FUNNY anthology (WA666) packed with full color ultra swellness from all sorts killer boys and girls. All for only 10 bucks!!!

Pin it up

Posted by J Chris in 01-Illustration, Comics

A while back Jai Nitz asked me to do an illustration for Season of the Witch #1 from Image comics. The character fights monsters in a fantasy land. I thought it would be funny for her to be jumping off a cliff into a group of monsters like she was going for a swim. No fear and what not. So I did it, turned it in and totally forgot about it. Until I saw it on the shelf at the comic book store. Anyhow, I don’t believe I ever posted it or sent it out for anyone to see prior to publication. So here it is now. Can you name the Muppets the monsters are based on?

Wide Awake Press Check

Posted by J Chris in Comics

Wide Awake 666 is being printed locally at Martin Printing.
Justin Gammon and I did a press check.
And boy does the book look swell!!
JCC WA666

I’m amazed at how well the color on the cover came out. It’s really, really great looking.

Print rep Craig Ragsdale watches as Justin Gammon gives the proof a karate chop test. Thankfully the proofs past without cracking. He knows Proofu.
WE CAN’T WAIT FOR THE FINSHED BOOK!

Uncle Jabby

Posted by J Chris in Comics

You all ordered your copy of Wide Awake 666 right? Cause it’s at the printer right now and I’ve got to call them next week and let them know how many to print. So call your comic shop and tell them to order you a copy so that they can call Diamond distribution and tell them to order a copy from me so I can call the printer and tell them how many copies you guys want. Welcome to the screwy world of comic books. If everything works as planned you’ll have a spanking new 7 page story of Uncle Jabby, wrapped in 105 scaryfunny pages of WA666, arriving at your local shop first of October. Oh yeah!

Good Bye Pluto

Posted by J Chris in Plugs

I had one of those Pluto the dog toys, where you pushed up on the bottom of his stand and he fell over. Rubber bands or string running up through his legs. You’ve seen those right? What are those called? What happened to those things?
Pluto not Planet

Anyway, on a totally different subject. There are only 8 planets in our Solar system now. Think of all those solar system science fair mobiles. All one planet to many. Wouldn’t it be funny if everyone took Pluto and mailed it to The International Astronomical Union. That would be a gas. Right?

I know, I know it had to be done. I guess it’s better than adding Xena to the our list of planets. It’ll take them 12 years to update all those text books!
