Power up your snail mail

Starting thursday you can add a little POW to your mail with Marvel postage stamps! Each 41-cent iconic square is ready to peal and stick and really snazes up that letter to the electric company.

Thing Stamp

Here is what the United States Postal Service has to say about it.

Marvel Super Heroes
With these 20 colorful stamps, the U.S. Postal Service salutes stars from the world of Marvel Comics. For decades, Super Heroes have been synonymous with the comic book medium. Their adventures have provided an escape from every day life and demonstrate that individuals can make a difference. Comic books aren’t simply “kid stuff” — adults have always been among their readers, and the form has attracted its share of serious artists and writers. And Super Heroes have responded to social and political issues from their beginnings.
Marvel Postage Stamps
Ten stamps on the pane of 20 are portraits of individual Marvel characters: Captain America, Elektra, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Sub-Mariner, The Incredible Hulk, The Thing and Wolverine.

The other 10 stamps depict individual Marvel Comic book covers. Information about the artwork shown on each stamp appears on the back on the stamp pane.

Car Car

My mom sang “going for a ride in the car car” all the time when we were little. I think my dad did also. The lyrics were pretty simple and I always thought she made it up.

Going for a ride in the car car.
Going for a ride in the car car.
Going for a ride in the car car.
Mama’s gonna take you for a ride.

Going for a ride in the car car

I started singing it while driving around my son and nephews. Of course I changed it up a little and made it more interactive. Naming everyone in the car. Then we started naming things in the car along with feet, hair, fingers and shoes. Moving them about while we sang. It’s been a handy little sing along.

I felt like doing a little family portrait using it thinking it might be a pretty cool children’s book. So I decided to look it up on the ole interwebs to make sure it wasn’t a real song.

Not being a big Folk music guy I’ve never really listend to Woody Guthrie. The guy who sang This Land Is Your Land. It was his song called Riding In My Car. Really cool little song, a minute and a half long, here are the lyrics courtesy of www.woodyguthrie.org.

Riding In My Car

Brrrm brm brm brm brm brm brm, brrrm b’ brrrm,
Brrrm brm brm brm brm brm brrrm b’ brrrm,
Brrrm brm brm brm brm brm brrrm b’ brrrm.
Brrrm brm brm brm brm brm brrrm.

Take me riding in the car, car;
Take me riding in the car, car;
Take you riding in the car, car;
I’ll take you riding in my car.

Click clack, open up the door, girls;
Click clack, open up the door, boys;
Front door, back door, clickety clack,
Take you riding in my car.

Climb, climb, rattle on the front seat;
Spree I spraddle on the backseat;
Turn my key, step on my starter,
Take you riding in my car.

Engine it goes boom, boom;
Engine it goes boom, boom;
Front seat, backseat, boys and girls,
Take you riding in my car.

Trees and the houses walk along;
Trees and the houses walk along;
Truck and a car and a garbage can,
Take you riding in my car.

Ships and the little boats chug along;
Ships and the little boats chug along;
Boom buhbuh boom boom boom buh boom,
Take you riding in my car.

I’m a gonna send you home again;
I’m a gonna send you home again;
Boom, boom, buhbuh boom, rolling home,
Take you riding in my car.

I’m a gonna let You blow the horn;
I’m a gonna let you blow the horn;
A oorah, a oorah, a oogah, oogah,
I’ll take you riding in my car.

Then I remembered seeing a really great drawing of Woody by Josh Cotter. Click for larger version at his blog. Josh, you need to school me on this guy.

The Awesome anthology!

Who would have thought my obsession with one word could lead to the title of a major anthology. How did it happen? Well, I just started listening to podcasts in December 2005. I was very excited to find Indie Spinner Rack and sent them some comics. So in February of 2006 I was interviewed for Issue 17.

Awesome Anthology Indie Spinner Rack

Throughout the interview I said Awesome about 50 times. I asked if Charlito could add in a little ding sound after every awesome, basically half kidding and to my amazement he did! So when you start listening to the episode you keep hearing a ding. Then after a little while you hear us talk about how often I was saying awesome. It was a cool feature that everyone loved. So much so that listeners started using it in conversation and on the message board. Ultra geek powers are awesome(ding)!

Anyway the killer folks over at Evil Twin Comics have done an Anthology called AWESOME and it’s packed full of guests and listeners of Indie Spinner Rack. It will be out this October and it features an 8 page comic by little ole me. You can see preview pages over at the AWESOME website.

Oh, don’t forget to check out the Zig Zag 2 Advertisement in Issues #88 & #89 done in “old timey” style. And the all tagline advertisement written by Charlito himself for episode #87.

Where are you going for vacation?

Here’s the cover for the next Beat

Summer Vacation

For some reason it feels like summer is almost over. We never really went anyplace “Vacationy”. We did go to Charleston to visit the inlaws and went to the Bee City. We took lots of pictures, which you know I’ll never get around to posting. It was actually a really cool Roadside America type place. Maybe I’ll just count that as our vacation.

Where are you headed or have already headed?

How robots can change your life!

I just started back drawing my 3-minute robots. I’ve really missed doing them and I’m totally out of practice. Yes, of course not all the robots will be done in 3-minutes. The basic idea is to have something that I do everyday on the computer that alows me to cut loose and create something. Like Raybestos here:

Make sure you don’t miss a single robot. Join my mailing list by sending me an e-mail that says “Bring on the robots”.
