Dragon*Con 2007 Costumes

Posted by J Chris in Events

There are so many people at Dragon*Con and it’s so gigantic that you never really see the same people more than once or twice. So if you don’t have your camera ready you’ll never have proof that you saw an Elvis Kligon. Or Darth Vadar dressed up as a pimp, with gold chains and a purple pimp hat. I was ready with my camera to get a few pics.

These guys would be walking and then they would stop and assemble this little line of Tetris blocks.

I actually saw 2 Dorothies at the show and sold a few of my Wizard of Oz button packs. This one had little pictures of her dog asking people if they had seen him. The dog’s name was Chewbacca.

Marvel Zombies are freaking huge!

A very impressive lion head whose jaw moved when he talked. But he wasn’t my favorite of the cowardly variety.

This is exactly what it looks like. Someone with a mound of stuffed animals all over them. Strapped to every inch. This was the best shot I could get because he was mobbed and constantly getting hugged by women.

Shoot or not to shoot?

Posted by J Chris in Comics, JCC

I did this little cartoon for my good buddy Kelly Brogdon over at Crosby Stills Photography. It’s for a publication they are putting out for their uber-niffty Snap Shot cafe & art bar located here in Greenville, SC. One day I’m going to talk them into doing a non-photography art show for all the local JCC art fans. Me, my wife and mom will have a gay ole time! Click the image to view it bigger.

Shoot or not to shoot?

Falls Park is in downtown Greenville where there is a giant waterfall. A few years back they removed an old car bridge over the waterfall and put in a Liberty Bridge. The entire area is remade into super nice happy parkville USA. Now there are tons of people down there hanging out. Some even swiming in the river and sliding on the rocks. Someone recently got hurt, so after a bizillion years of people sliding on the waterfall rocks it’s now prohibited.

Me talky so long

J Chris and The Dollar Bin

Dudes and Dudettes, I’m happy to let you in on a secret. The Dollar Bin recorded a special little podcast episode with me. I guess it really isn’t a secret since it’s on the worldwide webaroni. But it’s been a secret until now. We talk a little origin of “J Chris” and some about web comics including Wide Awake Press’ Eats. Give it a listen and see if you can hear how many common phrases I totally mangle. 5 points for counting how many times I say stuff! What? You don’t have time? It’s really not that long, and there’s some funny stuff in it. Ok, Ok let me edit it down to under a minute for you.

I’d like to say welcome if you’re here because of The Dollar Bin. Kick your shoes off and have a look around. Mostly just blogging going on right now, but at one time I did have some illustrations posted. What? I guess I can throw some illos up just for you Dollar Bin folks. That’s how much I like you. Except maybe that Kris guy, he’s got shift eyes and spells his name all funny.

Baltimore Comic-Con

Posted by J Chris in Comics, Events

Man, did you know that Baltimore Comic-Con is like right after Dragon-Con, Sept 8 and 9? I’m not going to be home good before I have to turn around and head north. I’ll be in the artist’s alley with Mr. Rob Ullman  [do not click if you don't want to see a bunch of half naked lady drawings] [Hey, where did everybody go]. By the way he has done an excelent job of updating his blog everyday this month, and was the one that made me take up the challenge.

Baltimore Comic-Con

He’s also the guy who gave me ultra sweet pluggins on last year’s SPX convention guide cover. Heck that show’s basically right around the corner also October 12 and 13. This is the most conventioning I’ve ever done.

Yo Gabba Gabba

Posted by J Chris in Plugs

I’ve been looking forward to this show for a long time now. I forgot about it starting on August 20th and totally didn’t vio-it. But there are a few vids up on youtube. Including the performance by the AquaBats.

Yo Gabba Gabba

These have been up there a while. Check out Biz’s Beat of the Day and party in my tummy. I was looking for the remix of Biz’s Beat of the Day but it looks like they’ve taken it down. It was zary goot.

It’s like if Sesame Street was directed by Sid and Marty Croft on the set of Pee Wee’s Playhouse. You get the idea.

One week to go!

Posted by J Chris in Robots

Well there is only one week left in August. If you’ve been following along you may have noticed I’ve updated everyday! If you haven’t been following along then I’d like to let you know that I’ve been updating my blog everyday this month.
It’s been a neat process. You find yourself thinking all day on what you should blog about. Trying to find that one cool thing. I’m not really that good at it so I’ll probably switch back to once a week next month and start drawing robots more often.
Don’t cry, are you sad to hear that? Well if I get just 10 replies in my comment for this post I will continue once a day next month. I’ll give you guys till the end of the month to decide. Is that better?

Live the random.

Posted by J Chris in Design, Marketing

The next time you’re banging your head against the wall trying to force out an advertising concept, why not stop by The Ad Generator website? Just sit back and watch as it creates one of a kind advertising where “Words and semantic structures from real corporate slogans are remixed and randomized to generate invented slogans.” The slogans are then matched with photos from Flickr resulting in some pretty nice ads. I created these by watching the generator so behold the power of experience. Of course I like the more humorous ones.
