I Wanna Play

I wanna play

I wanna play

Taller than the biggest trees
A monster hides among the leaves
Watching as the fight goes on
A knight defending his kingdom
Far from sisters, dads and moms
Sticks are swords and rocks are bombs
They hit and roll and jump and run
As he wishes to join the fun

Chalk on the sidewalk

There is something about drawing really big on the ground that I find really appealing. I can’t pass it up a chance to doodle. But I feel like a total jerk when I’m drawing on the ground with my kids at festivals. Like I’m using up chalk that some other kid could be using. But it’s to much fun to pass up.

Even at home I feel like I’m using up my kids fun. But I shouldn’t because sidewalk chalk is pretty cheap and we usually end up leaving it out in the rain so it gets wasted anyway.

Anyhow, recently we were drawing in the driveway of my sister-in-law’s house and I drew my normal robot/guy/monster waving. Then I took a look what my son had drawn.

My sidewalk drawing days are over. I think I’ll let him use all the chalk from now on.

Hellboy

Man this summer has put a serious dent on my children’s college fund with all the movies I’ve been going to see. But I think for my entertainment dollar movies are still cheaper per hour than comic books. A comic is 3 bucks (secret invasion is 4) and you can read them in like 10 minutes. So that’s about 36 dollars for 2 hours of entertainment.

Hellboy versus the ghost
Hellboy is next up on your movie-geek-reference-card. It’s out of place in the line-up for some reason. How is your score so far? I’ll soon be 8 for 13.

The Incredible Hulk

The big green guy is out this weekend. Don’t let the commercial fool you, Tony Stark is only in the movie for about as long as he is in the ad.

For some real Iron Man and Hulk action catch this killer Marvel produced animation.

Hulk Smash

Dungeons and Dragons

Gary Gygax died last week. I was a little under the weather and didn’t post about it. I started to write a really nice entry and it morphed into a story. So I think I’ll keep working on it as a little remembrance in comic form perhaps.

Until then all you need to know is I’ve played a lot of D&D in my life. A ton of it actually. I’ve got a shelf dedicated to it, not a room thankfully (that’s full of toys). A few months back I was thinking about it and did some doodles in my sketch book.

Dungeons and dragons

I really appreciate the time I’ve spent with friends around a table piled with books, dice, maps, manuals and food. I’d like to thank Mr. Gygax and everyone else with whom I shared those times. Moander the shambling mound shall take us all one day.
