Website Explosions

Posted by J Chris in Plugs

Last year I ran across this site that does graphical representations of any website. The graphing takes place live via a java application. You’ll see an explosion of dots that continues to grow while you watch with each dot representing a certain thing:
blue: for links (the A tag)
red: for tables (TABLE, TR and TD tags)
green: for the DIV tag
violet: for images (the IMG tag)
yellow: for forms (FORM, INPUT, TEXTAREA, SELECT and OPTION tags)
orange: for linebreaks and blockquotes (BR, P, and BLOCKQUOTE tags)
black: the HTML tag, the root node
gray: all other tags

There’s a Flickr tag if you’d liked to see more. But I’d suggest going there and typing in one of your favorite websites. I went ahead and did your most favorites below. You can even compare them from 05/07 & 02/08.

as a nice contrast here is adhousebooks.com

As an interesting side note, the program was created by artist Fernando Luis Lara who is a part of the internet based art projects. His is 365 special days, where he paints a painting by request for commision for people who want a special day remembered. Everyday is for sale and he is only doing the day once. www.365specialdays.com

For more of this kind of thing be sure to check out these sites:

I’d lump the million dollar homepage in with this whole set even though it’s not really art, but the idea is the same.

I should have broken this up into another post, but that would have required me doing more research and eventually coming up with some silly idea where I draw 500 robots or something.

Congratulations on your prolific work here. I must admit I have popped in a read a good number of your blogs but I have no idea how to post a response over there, so I’ll tell you now how good you are at describing the stuff your at – I must admit I find it insightful to read your blogging. Keep up the good work. :)
